How do we work?
The Head of Regulatory Reporting and Accounting Policy is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all regulatory reporting and accounting policies for our North American Entities. This role will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust accounting policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong technical accounting expertise, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing complex regulatory reporting processes.
As a Head of Regulatory Reporting and Accounting Policy you will:
Regulatory Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all NFA, CFTC and CIRO regulatory reports, ensuring timely and accurate filing with relevant authorities including the NFA Form 1 FR-FCM and NFA daily, monthly and quarterly financial filings.
- Stay abreast of changes in regulatory reporting requirements and proactively implement necessary adjustments to processes and systems.
- Technically challenge the regulatory reporting team and ensure returns are submitted in line with relevant requirements and regulations.
- Manage and respond to internal and external regulatory inquiries and examinations.
- Serve as the primary financial reporting point of contact with the NFA and own all financial regulatory reporting matters, including during the 6-month annual NFA exam.
- Close all audit points, relating to regulatory reporting, within prescribed timelines.
- Establish reports and procedures for new products or process changes impacting regulatory reporting with a focus on NFA and CFTC compliance.
- Develop and maintain a strong control environment around regulatory reporting processes.
- Lead the implementation of new regulatory reporting systems or upgrades to existing systems. ○ Ensure the appropriate training of individuals involved in the regulatory reporting processes, especially regarding NFA and CFTC compliance.
Accounting Policy:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive accounting policies and procedures in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
- Provide expert technical accounting guidance to internal stakeholders on complex accounting issues.
- Monitor and analyse changes in accounting standards and assess their impact on the company.
- Lead the implementation of new accounting standards.
- Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across the organization.
- Document accounting policies and procedures clearly and concisely.
- Maintain knowledge of current accounting literature.
Leadership:
- Mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit) to ensure alignment and effective communication.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Lead or participate in cross functional projects.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess financial reporting and regulatory risks, and develop and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls related to financial reporting.
What skillset you need, to be successful in this role:
- 5 years of experience in accounting and regulatory reporting, preferably in the financial services and retail broker / dealer industry.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) and NFA, CFTC and CIRO regulations and reporting requirements.
- Proven track record of managing complex regulatory reporting processes.
- Strong technical accounting expertise and analytical skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
- Strong project management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree or CPA/CA designation preferred.
