Process Automation Developers are responsible for the design, development, and support of front-end automated programs to streamline and simplify operational tasks. We work directly with operational areas as a tactical scripting team to replace or augment manual processes. Our solutions increase productivity, improve efficiency, and reduce errors and other compliance risks. As the owners of our internal development process, the team leverages existing infrastructure when possible and explores new applications or technologies when necessary to develop effective solutions.


Job Responsibilities:

"Find a Problem"
• Explore operational processes and identify opportunities for automation.
• Work with business stakeholders and independently gather solution requirements.
• Ensure effective communication occurs with key stakeholders on projects.
• Scope development efforts, split projects into manageable pieces, and estimate delivery of solutions.
• Expand programming knowledge, diving into new functionality and concepts as needed.

"Fix a Problem"
• Build front-end Python programs to process data, interact with existing tools and corporate applications, and perform operational tasks.
• Test solutions to ensure functionality and data integrity meet business requirements and deadlines.
• Adhere to review process for all code written and continually strive for improvement in the delivery of solutions.
• Provide client support for program implementation and ensure problems are worked to a complete resolution.
• Track the effectiveness of solutions, celebrate successes, and refine existing programs as needed.

Work with the Team
• Maintain effectiveness in an agile environment and adapt to changing circumstances, tasks, and personnel.
• Productively challenge prevailing assumptions.
• Balance the need for experimentation and comprehensive solutions with the desire to provide immediate business value.
• Contribute to a positive work environment and effective team dynamics.
• Mentor and share information with team members as appropriate.

Nelnet believes in a hybrid work environment that accommodates both in-office and remote work. The standard hybrid work schedule includes a 3/2 (in-office/work-from-home) split for associates that reside within 30 miles of an office. This is subject to change, based on manager discretion.

An ideal candidate has:
• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field of study.
• Two or more years of development experience in a high-level programming language, Python preferred.
• A passion for learning and solving problems and a track record of improving the effectiveness of systems and processes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience working with teams that have varying degrees of technical expertise.

Additional skills and tools:
• Data analysis skills are leveraged throughout the development and delivery process.
• SQL databases are used by many operational teams for data warehousing and analysis.
• Many solutions involve building ETL functions and interacting with APIs.
• Microsoft Office is used extensively by operational areas, and many legacy programs we support are written in VBA.

US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a 6C Federal security clearance are required for this role. Some travel may be required.

Annual Salary for this position is $60k - $75k
